The 3rd Principle of Pandit Chitresh Das - by Nyssa Kansal

Nyssa is 11 years old and has been studying at the Chitresh Das Institute for five years. She is currently in Children’s Beginning Level II with Anita Pai (Anita Didi).

Principle Three:

ररयाज़ मेहनत के साथ“Riyaz mehenat ke sath” - Systematic practice with deep exertion

Without hard work and thorough determination, one cannot succeed, no matter how much passion they have for what they do. For this reason, I have chosen to write about Principle Three. Additionally, just having passion for what you do cannot suffice alone. However, if you add determination and hard work to the passion, you are guaranteed to succeed. As I will describe later on, everybody can use Principle Three, and they will notice improvements in their dance, almost immediately.

Without feeling the slightest bit doubtful, I can distinctly see Principle Three in my dance and my life. In class, my Kathak teacher, Anita Didi, always tells us that ‘the ball is now in our court’ after teaching us new choreography. What she means by this is that, since she has taught us the new choreography, she expects us to practice by ourselves because she cannot practice for us. This is a very consequential phrase because it has really helped me with my dance. By taking the time to practice what we had learned in class, I noticed that my dance was starting to flow together, seamlessly. On the contrary, when I once forgot to practice the new choreography, my dance became chaotic and muddled up. Therefore, Principle Three plays a big role in not only my dance, but everybody’s dance because improvement can only be made by sheer hard work. Furthermore, Principle Three can be seen in my daily life, not just for Kathak. If I am studying for a math test, and I do not understand one of the concepts, utilizing Principle Three would be very beneficial. If I watched videos online to understand complex concepts and completed some additional problems, I would do a lot better in my math test.

Principle Three is not just applied to Kathak, but it can be utilized to succeed in many things. Without hard work and passion, one cannot succeed, no matter how much passion they have for what they do. The sky’s the limit!
